For those
looking for something interesting to do with their Trumpeter/Hobbycraft F9F-2
Panther, here is a sheet that covers a number of interesting options.
The first
option is for an ATU-206 F9F-2 aircraft based at NAS Pensacola in 1956. An ATU
was an Advanced Training Unit and generally were where pilots went for advanced
training on specific types or for weapons training. Now it is the purpose of the
RAG or Replacement Air Group to provide this sort of service, but that wasn't
how it worked fifty years ago. This aircraft is in the then brand new light gull
grey over white scheme and carries the very easy to see red markings used by
this unit. Yellowhammer includes a mask so that you can use them on the outer
tank, upper wing and nose flashes. the lower wing and tail bits are pretty
straight forward. Frankly, I'm not sure why I even bother scanning it as you
can't see a darn thing in the scan!
The rest of the decal options are for five different incarnations of the XF9F-2 and XF9F-3. There is a conversion set: Teknics 48088, which you can use to convert the kit should you desire to have the conversion work done for you. Not shown is an extensive data sheet and there are equally detailed markings placement instructions provided.
