If you recall last time, I was going into building the track. The initial track, if you recall, was 16 feet by 4 feet and while that provided some fast running, it was really not quite what I wanted. I looked at the space that I had available to me and decided to expand out to the basement supports. Those things are what had made me decide on such a long track in the first place. Were I to have uninhibited wall space, the track would have grown quite differently. But thanks to the kit stash, space utilization has to be constrained.
I got another 4x8 foot section of 1/2 inch particle board and had it cut into three 4'x2.5' sections. I then made up a framework of 2x2s as previously done and settled the new pieces onto it. Actually, I bolted an 8 foot run and an additional 4 foot run of 2x2s onto the outer frame. Then I put the short pieces on the two outer pieces and another long 8foot 2x2 on one end. That was bolted in place and the top screwed down. Then the other end piece was installed and bolted down, followed by the center section. By saving the center section till last, I had the opportunity to work on the center section of the track as getting to it isn't impossible, but is quite a reach.
I then laid the track and with the additional two and a half by twelve feet to play with, was able to add in a long sweeper with the widest radius track and a hairpin with the smallest. I move the esses over to just after the hairpin, making the inner sweep onto the large sweeper a faster section.
I soon discovered that I needed to put some barriers at the end of the straights as I had a few cars go crashing to the concrete; parts flying. Not a very positive experience! For those I uses 1"x 6" planks bolted then screwed to the 2x2s. Not pretty, but effective.
In order to make things a bit nicer on the ends. I got some plaster cloth and started building up some small hills.
Track Diagram: As you can see, track planning software isn't always very accurate, but it will get you close.

BTW, is anyone actually reading this or am I wasting my time?
