FUJIMI 1/48 Bf109 KIT TABLE

Last update: 20 May 2003

Hi, I’m Tony Hodun, and this is a table of 1/48 Fujimi Bf109 kits I’ve developed to aid you as a modeler or collector in finding the kit to build the version you want, or to fill the gaps in your collection.  This table focuses on the well-tooled family of Bf109s Fujimi did in the 1990s. There were 14 boxings in the 48000 series, pricey, listing at one time up to $40 each, now can be found second hand for $15-$20.  Recently several have been reissued in Japan under a new 27000 number series at a lower price there, still pricey when imported.  Note: There is a much older Fujimi 1/48 Bf-109G/K, which is not the subject of this work.

These kits are accurate and finely detailed (not as fine as the later Hasegawa offerings), and loaded with options.  But they have features you should be aware of, that some builders don’t mind and others can’t stand.  The fuselage/wings are common to all versions, which means one must fill in panel lines for fuel fillers, radio hatches, wing panels, etc. that do not belong to the version you are building, and bore out holes for the forward lower cowl bumps on the G-10/K-4s.  The upper cowling comes in separate halves.  Experienced builders recommend building the aft fuselage first before adding the cowl halves so the width matches. The upper fin is part of the rudder piece.  If you don’t mind dealing with these things, these are  nice builds, and you’ll end up with plenty of extra parts for use on other kits.

Basic G-6 kits (and G-5) are identical 48002, 48006, 48008, 48011, and 48014.

G-6 Trop 48010 is a basic G-6 with added tree for trop filter and other details.

G-6 48004 ‘Hartman’ is a basic G-6 but has an Erla Haube canopy only (no standard one), later issue 27031 ‘Hartman’ is identical.

48013 G-14/R1 is based on 48004 with an added tree of bombs and pylons, as well as the G-10/K-4 cowling tree.

48003 G-14/AS and 48007 Bf109G-6/AS are identical, and are similar to 48008 but come with AS cowling halves and also include the later G-10/K-4 cowling and parts.

Basic G-10/K-4s are identical 48001and 48005. K-4 27033 is similar but the molds have been changed to add the tall tail tip and rudder to each of the fuselage halves, separate tail parts are still there; some later boxings of 48001 may have the added rudder/tail tip.

48010 G-10/R2 is based on standard G-10/K-4 kit, but also includes the standard canopy tree, and both clear trees have added clear parts for mid and aft dorsal camera ports (aft requires surgery)

NEED INFO: K-4s 48009 and more recent issues 27030, 27032.

FUJIMI 1/48 Bf109 KIT TABLE – THE KIT TREES

Note: Here’s a bit about each tree mainly to point out options.  A, B, C, and D are common to all kits. Note that some of the recent K-4 kits appear to have been revised so the tail tip and rudder are part of each fuselage half on trees A and B, plus they still include the separate tail tip/rudders, I refer to these trees as A* and B*. The E/AS name is mine, this variant of the E tree has AS type cowling halves instead of the original G-6/G-14 cowl halves that take the MG breech bulges, the other parts are the same.  G+ and H+ (my designations) refer to the clear trees that only come with kit 48012 Bf109G-10/R2 Recon so far, each includes a different added camera fitting part.

A - left fuselage, later wider wheels/smooth tires, separate earlier short rudder and tail tip, spinner, flaps, large upper wing wheel well bulges, etc. A* (my designation) has tall tail fin/rudder added to fuselage

B - right fuselage, earlier narrow wheels/treaded tires, separate later tall rudder and tail tip, slats, flaps, outer main gear doors, small upper wing wheel well bulges, etc. B* (my designation) has tall tail fin/rudder added to fuselage

C - upper and lower wings

D – common details, cockpit parts, drop tank and pylon, under wing cannon gondolas, under wing 21cm rocket launchers, short booted and tall unbooted tailwheels, early and later horizontal stabilizers, early prop blades and later wider prop blades, G-10/K-4 forward lower cowl bumps, original and larger supercharger intakes, early and later headrest armor, main gears, etc.

E - G-6/G-14 cowl halves (parts E5 and E6), MG breech bulges, smaller oil cooler scoop, etc.

E/AS - G-6/G-14 AS cowl halves (parts E7 and E8), MG breech bulges, smaller oil cooler scoop, etc.

F – G-10/K-4 cowl halves, larger oil cooler scoop, tailwheel doors, K-4 instrument panel and right cockpit side, etc.

G - standard G canopy, gunsight

G+  - (my designation) standard G canopy, gunsight, includes aft ventral fuselage insert for two oblique camera windows (must cut out fuselage back near tail)

H - Erla Haube canopy, headrest armor glass, gunsight

H+  - (my designation) Erla Haube canopy, headrest armor glass, gunsight, includes ventral camera bulge for fuselage just aft of wing

J – tropical intake filter, sunshade umbrella brackets

K – SC250 bomb, another type of 250 bomb, and 4 SC50 bombs and 2 bomb racks

The End! Auf Wiedersehn!
