CONSTRUCTION |
First thing that I did was to remove the wings, wheels and the little winglet between the wheels and glue those together. The wing was a real problem as the molding on the leading edge of the wing wasn't good with all sorts of gaps and short shot areas where some of the sprue attachment points were. I also had to scrape away a great deal of plastic from the rear of the wings so that this area would fit without huge trailing edge gaps. I applied the usual filler to the wing and let that dry.
Meanwhile, I decided to remove the inner framework that is provided by Battle Axe. Initially, it looks quite nice, then, as I started scraping away the mold seam lines, I realized that the molds for this part had shifted and there was no way these were going to remain circular. More likely they'd end up being rectangular once the seams had been scraped. It may be in the best interests of those who are seeking a contest model to replace this framework with one scratch built out of plastic tubing.
