Monogram 1/48 UH-1B (or maybe it is a C)
Kit Number: 5201
Price: $6.00
Media: Injected plastic
Decals : For a USMC helo
Accuracy: looks good
While this may not be Monogram's oldest 1/48 kit, I'd bet it is up there. The detail is good, but some of it is lost during reconstructive surgery. The interior is very well detailed as it must be due to all the cockpit glass. I was unsure of the interior colors, but one of my neighbors flew them and soon set me straight. It requires some nose weight that can be fit under the floorboard otherwise it sits back on its skids.
After the flash is removed, the pieces fit together pretty well, the only real trouble I had was attaching all the clear parts. I used 5 minute epoxy otherwise I would have had a real mess on my hands. The kit decals were trashed and Superscale's were used to portray a Vietnam era gunship. Naturally it was painted several shades of Olive Drab and heavily stained with pastels. I also added antenna to the nose radio masts. It does make into a nice kit and there is no reason to spend money on resin wheels for this one. Even though this kit was built back in the early 1990s, it has been a favorite of mine and is still in one of my display shelves.
I'd recommend it to helo fans and those with old Monogram experience.
