HISTORY
In
the Continent, a tournament called the Queen's Blade is held once every four
years to determine the most beautiful and powerful Queen. Held in Gainos (ガイノス, Gainosu;
also Gynos),
the Queen's Capital, various fighters from all over the Continent travel to the
Capital to defeat Aldra,
the current Queen. The overall story of Queen's
Blade focuses
on Leina,
the heiress of the esteemed Vance Family and next in line for the throne, as she
travels to Gainos, encountering many other warriors also competing in the
Queen's Blade for their own intentions.
One of the many characters met on those journeys is Irma. She is a young woman who is the leader of the Assassins of the Fang, the Queen's secret police charged with taking out certain contenders who might be a threat to the Continent. She has a cold and emotionless personality, and is a highly skilled fighter who uses stealth to her advantage. In the original game's story, she is ordered by Queen Aldra to kill Leina, but changes her mind when she faces her, and tries to kill the Queen instead during the tournament; however, she is soundly defeated and sentenced to death, only to be rescued by the elf Echidna. In the anime, it is revealed that Irma was taken in as Echidna's disciple after she lost her brother in a dispute, and seeks revenge on the Queen by killing her. However, a broken promise led Irma to bear a grudge against her former teacher. She is armed with twin daggers.
THE KIT
E-2046
and other figure companies have produced a great number of characters from this
series. All of the characters are fairly unique in terms of character and
outfits. They also become nude fairly frequently during the anime, which some
casters will adapt to their figures. This is not one of them, but is in a fairly
nice pose that matches several of the scenes in the anime.
Typical of E-2046 figure kits, there is but a sliver of the resin casting blocks. They even go so far as to sand away most of the mold seams on large pieces. This really speeds up the building process. The engineering is such that the pieces fit very well and often in such a way that you can prepaint pieces prior to assembly. To top it off the pieces are packaged separately and E-2046 packages their kits in such a way that they arrive from their trip from Hong Kong in perfect condition.
If there is a downside to these figures it is that shipping can be quite expensive for the large ones. In addition, there is no assembly guide for most of these; simply a photograph of the completed model. In addition, no painting guide is given, but then again, this is not all that unusual even for military figures.
The kit provides 17 pieces, one of which is a large base. Unlike later kits, this one does not have decals for the eyes, which many find the most difficult to paint. In reality, they are not difficult to do once one has built a few of these kits. This is a fairly old kit as E-2046's kit numbers are now in the 16-18,000s. As such, the mating surfaces are fairly shallow so pinning large parts using a section of thick wire or paperclip would be advised. .
CONCLUSIONS
Those of us who have built figure kits from E-2046 have liked them and find that the fit is such that the kit can go together fairly quickly. Some of them are quite complex both in the number of parts and the painting requirements. Simple ones like this would be a fairly good way to get into this segment of the hobby.
