NOTES: Four Figures; Gen 2 Gear

The Battle of Arnhem, initiated by an air drop of British and Polish paratroopers, took place from 17-26 September 1944. As part of Operation Market Garden, the aim of this famous battle was to capture the Arnhem Bridge over the Lower Rhine in Holland. The successful capture of a series of bridges, culminating in Arnhem Bridge, would facilitate an Allied advance into Germany itself. Unfortunately for the Allies, the German defenders put up stiff resistance and rushed reinforcements to the area, finally smothering the airborne assault. In the final analysis, this was a victory for German forces, although Allied forces did create a salient into Holland that they could eventually exploit.

The latest 1/35 scale figure set from Dragon depicts four German servicemen who are participating in the Battle of Arnhem. The four figures are cleanly and sharply sculpted by the famous Japanese sculptor Hirano Yoshitaka for maximum lifelikeness, and together they form a vignette straight out of the box. Two wounded tankers have survived the destruction of their tank by British paratroopers, and they now aid each other as they make their way to a casualty treatment centre. These bandaged figures are designed to fit together as a pair in this realistic pose. They are supported by two panzergrenadiers from one of the units thrown into Arnhem to stop the British. These remaining figures are well made in terms of pose, proportion and detail, including one soldier offering a cigarette to the wounded tankers. While these four figures are ideal for a scene from the desperate fighting in Arnhem, they are also versatile enough to be used in a different scene or theater should a modeler choose to do so.
