Eduard  FE 139: Bf-109D Zoom etched set

$5.99 when new

Academy/Hobbycraft 1/48 kit

Scott Van Aken

This is one of Eduard's earlier Zoom sets in that it is not color. Actually, this is not a bad thing as trying to match Eduard's interior colors is very difficult as they seem to use non-standard shades. As yuou can see, the majority of the parts for this one are for the interior, including seat harness, instrument panels, the shield for the oxygen generator and various levers. The set also includes a main radiator screen and some linkages for the ailerons along with oleo scissors for the main landing gear. An acetate sheet provides instrument faces.

I'm not sure just how available this is as one thing I've noticed about Eduard sets is that they tend to do only one run of whatever it is then it is up to the modeler to hunt around if it has been more than a few years since it was released.

This set is for the Hobbycraft kit which, until the Dora Wings release, was pretty much it for the Jumo 109 in 1/48 scale. Despite its rather basic detailing, the Hobbycraft kit is not a total loss and this set will be a huge help in terms of sprucing up the cockpit.
