This particular set is designed for the Special Hobby series of  later production P-40 Warhawks. Specifically those that use the fishtail exhaust. This includes aircraft in the P-40K, P-40M and P-40N series. The kit provides these exhaust ganged together as a single piece, unlike the P-40E kit where the exhaust are paired. What this set does is to revert to the earlier design and to provide these exhaust as a pair. Rather than have them simply plug into the extant openings, CMK has provided a new backing section for these to fit into. What this means is that the builder has to drill out the existing exhaust area so that the new resin part can be installed. Not exactly what I had been expecting. Also the resin exhaust sections, while more detailed than the kit parts, have solid openings, probably due to the inability of resin tooling to actually provide indentations in this scale. One has to wonder if 3D printing would be able to provide this feature.

I bought these because I thought they would improve the look of the model and while I'm sure they will, I wasn't expecting to have to do the additional work to use the set. CMK offers other bits for these kits if you really want to pump some money into it.
