Teknics  1/48 F9F Panther ARA-25 nose fairing

TK 48087

All current F9F Panther kits

This is a simple add on piece that is an item added to later Cougars and retrofitted to almost all extant Panthers in the fleet at the time. The ARA-25 is a UHF automatic direction finder set that was quite common in the 1950s and 60s and even into the 70s and 80s, being replaced by the smaller but very similar ARA-48 system.

This fairing is where the antenna was located and as such was put on the underside of the nose of the Panther. There is a lip around this part that should not be removed as it was how the fairing was attached and had to be removed to take out the antenna. As a painting note, the octagonal piece is the antenna cover and should be a buff or slightly darker brown color.

This piece will fit any extant kit, including the FM F9F Cougar as that piece is the wrong shape and too small.
