Cutting Edge Corrected Cowling

Hasegawa 1/48 F6F-3 Hellcat

Scott Van Aken

It often happens that no matter how hard a kit maker is to get everything right, they sometimes miss. That is where companies like Cutting Edge come in to play. In this case, Hasegawa missed getting the cowling on their fine 1/48 F6F-3 right. The area of concern is the shape of the lower part of the cowling. So to make it easy for us all, Cutting Edge has supplied a replacement. It is a simple matter to cut away the resin pour stubs, clean up the join and plug it right in where the kit part is to go. About as simple a fix as you could hope for. For those thinking that this is the same as their set 48475, it is not. This cowling has the additional lower cowl flaps that were only on the -3. Very late -3s had the same cowling as the -5 so that is why there are two of these cowling sets.
