Superscale 72-815: F-14D Tomcats

Units: VF-31 & 101

Scott Van Aken

Continuing with the Tomcats, this sheet provides markings for two F-14Ds. The D has been nicely kitted by Revell AG and is easily found, as is the Hasegawa Super Tomcat. I don't think anyone else does one in 1/72 scale, though I could have missed one. Both of these planes are in the three grey Tactical Paint Scheme.

First up is the VF-31 CAG bird in a most subdued scheme as CAG birds are generally a bit more flambouyant.

The other is from VF-101, which took over all Tomcat training when VF-124 was disestablished at NAS Miramar back in the early 1990s. The unit has a history of marking some of its planes with some of the unit markings of Tomcat Squadrons that no longer exist, hence the VF-111 shark mouth.

I should point out that some of the sheets were delivered with the wrong instruction sheet that had a VF-2 and VF-101 aircraft. If that has happened to you, the place you bought it should be able to supply you with the correct instruction sheet or you can contact me and I'll send you a scanned copy that was supplied to me for this review.

The sheet contains full markings for both aircraft and includes upper intake walk areas as well.
