Well, here is yet another F-4 sheet, this time for both USMC and USAF RF-4s. This sheet was done during the hey-day of Microscale (later Superscale) and their involvement with 1/72 sheets. Unfortunately, it shows several of the reasons why Superscale fell off the #1 position as soon as credible competition showed up. The decals are fair, but not crisply printed and the instructions are a bit of a joke. If the buyer didn't know the subject rather well, they'd not be very useful at all. I point to the fact that there are no insignia placement guide and the small print. In the one instance that there is unusual insignia, only two of the four are provided. Where the prospective builder is to get the other two is unknown as the two insignia sheets mentioned on the back do not have that particular style on them.

Anyway, there are five aircraft on this sheet. The first two are from VMFP-3 and are in overall light gull grey. While it is listed as matte in color, it was probably gloss or semi-matte at that time. The second RF-4B is to have the tail painted Emerald Green with a black anti-glare panel.

The next three are USAF planes in the standard SEA scheme of 30219 tan/34079 dark green/34102 medium green over 36622 grey.

First of these planes is a very non-descript plane flown by a General Graham, head of TRC (whatever that is).

Next is 'Tumbleweeds' an RF-4C coded OO with no other information given as to the unit or other colors, however, I can tell you that the fin tip was painted black.

Finally, a 160 TRS RF-4C from the Alabama ANG used in a European Photo Meet in the 1970s. There are a couple of zaps, which would be typical, but finding them on the decal sheet will be a real challenge as they are completely impossible to distinguish on the instructions.

With all of these schemes, it would be most advantageous to have a reliable photo reference handy for applying markings. I've cropped the common data markings, but can tell you that the ones for the RF-4Cs were in white.
