Here is
another of the Long Out Of Production Superscale sheets. This one is for US
C-130s and many different types are offered on this one. To my knowledge,
the C-130 hasn't done as well as we'd like in 1/72, being that there are
only two kits around. The oldest is the Airfix version, and I've heard that
it has some problems in the engine nacelle area, though I'm not sure just
what those might be. The Italeri kit is the newest, but by no means a
modern kit itself. It is boxed as a C-130H, among many other versions. Both
are not simple builds, but both will provide a nice, large model when done.
If someone were to ask me which kit to use for a B or E or
any of the others on this sheet, I'm not really sure what I'd tell them.
Perhaps one of you can provide some insight. I do know that one of the many
Falcon 'Triple Conversion' sets offers the HC/WC bits. As an aside, the
instructions recommend the Airfix kit, however, it was the only one around
when this sheet came out.
First up is a C-130E from the 314 TAW in Little Rock. It is in SEA camo with tail codes so that puts it around the late 60's/early 70s. It is the Thunderbirds support aircraft so has that as a badge. It would also be in excellent condition.
Next is a standard MAC C-130E from the 62nd MAW. Once
again, it is in SEA camo with a nice
MAC band on the tail.
This C-130B is from an unidentified unit and rather plain as Hercs go. However, its bare metal with large red 'arctic' markings will make for something a bit different.
Moving to something a bit more exotic is this overall ADC Grey (FS 36473) HC-130N from the 305 ARRS. I may be in error, but the HC versions usually had the Fulton rig on the nose so I'd have that on this one. Some additional color is added by a yellow fuselage stripe and outer wing panels.
Also in a similar scheme is this WC-130H from the 920th WG. As with the previous plane, a large observation window needs to be added to the forward fuselage near the forward entry door (both sides, I do believe). Again, it probably shouldn't have the Fulton rig.
The sheet does not have any insignia or USAF markings so those will have to be found elsewhere.
