Here is an
interesting scheme. A regular F-8J in an RF-8 squadron. Basically this is
because when the regular F-8 squadrons were being disestablished, there was
still a need to train F-8 pilots for the RF-8 units, which lasted well
after all the pure fighter F-8s were gone. The result was that a few F-8Js
were used to save on RF-8 airframe hours. It sort of harkens back to the
early days of Navy photo recce units, when the squadrons had both fighter
and recce aircraft, with the fighter types providing cover. Anyway, the
sheet is designed for the new Hasegawa 1/48 F-8J kit. Painting could not be
any easier with the airframe in overall light gull grey, the scheme of the
RF-8 fleet at the time.
The sheet provides all the needed markings with only the nose anti-glare panel and the fuselage walk areas needing painted or brought over from the kit decals.
