NOTES:

`

Over the years, Superscale's older sheets on the Wildcat have become most difficult to find. As part of their new issues, Superscale has taken three of the more famous Wildcats of the early war and put all of them on the same sheet. These planes are in pre-Midway markings with the red and white striped rudders and insignia with the red dot in the middle of the stars. They are also all in the blue-grey upper surface camouflage with light grey undersides. Being F4F-3s they did not have the folding wings of the later versions.

The first aircraft is from John Thatch who won the US Medal of Honor flying this plane against attacking aircraft. He is also the inventor of the famous 'Thatch Weave', a defensive maneuver that allowed each pilot of a pair of aircraft to watch each others tail for enemy fighters.

Next is Butch O'Hare's Wildcat. Like John Thatch, he flew from the USS Lexington in the Battle of the Coral Sea.

The final aircraft of the trio is Scott McCuskey's F4F-3 from the USS Yorktown, also at Coral Sea.

Any one of these three schemes will look super on your Wildcat and the additional red and white rudder stripes add just that much more color to it.
