'Golden Knights'

Notes:

For those of you who attend air shows, I would be willing to bet that you have seen the Army's superb parachute team, the Golden Knights. There are two teams who spend the summer traveling around the country giving really great performances that please hundreds of thousands of spectators annually. While I have a preference for the Navy's Chuting Stars, the Army teams put on a dazzling display.

The teams currently use the Fokker F.27 Friendship as the jump aircraft of choice, though they also have several other jump aircraft that they don't use at shows, such as the DHC-6 Twin Otter. The Friendship is only the latest in jump planes that have been used by the team. Before that there was the C-7 Caribou and before that the venerable C-47. I have not seen shows using the C-47, but have seen the C-7 being used. One of the C-7s is currently on display at the Army Transportation Museum in Fort Eustis, VA near Hampton Roads.

With the recent reissue of the Monogram C-47 kit, this decal sheet becomes quite usable. Unlike today's paint scheme, with a lot of white and yellow/gold in it, the C-47 scheme was mostly white and gloss olive drab with all the trim in gold. Superscale provides all the gold trim and the lettering, it is up to the builder to do the OD part. What I would do is to make a copy of the decal sheet  and then cut out the trim parts to use as a mask. I would also not use setting solutions as, in my experience, they are detrimental to the gold in the decal.

Overall it will make a very colorful aircraft, though it will take a lot of work!
