A subject that never seems to grow old amongst modern jet modelers is the EA-6B. It is one of the most sought kits in 1/48 and though it hasn't been readily available for over a decade, it still engenders aftermarket parts (I understand that a reissue is due shortly - April 2003).
This sheet covers two planes, has data markings for both and insignia for one. First is from VAQ-136, the 'Wizards'. These planes are from the high color light gull grey and white period so the markings are quite colorful, especially on this one with its fuselage long stripes. The aircraft is shown on the USS Independence.
The other is from the RAG or Replacement Air Group squadron for the Prowler, VAQ-129. When I was in the RAG for the EKA-3B, VAQ-130, it also carried TR tail codes when not deployed. This aircraft is a bit more subdued with only the squadron markings on the rudder to add any color.
Only two kits have been molded in 1/48 for the EA-6B. One is the Airfix kit which is apparently rife with inaccuracies. Only slightly a bit better (according to pundits) is the Monogram kit, but it is the one to have as it is apparently easier to 'fix'.
