NOTES:

1/24 scale

This is a first for Starfighter decals; a racing car sheet. Not just any racing car, but the iconic GT-40. Few people (including your editor) knew that during the 1967 Daytona 24 hour race, two of the GT-40s wore Mercury logos. These were fairly early Mk.II cars and so there were differences between them besides the logos.

This sheet covers both of those cars. The #3 car was in Rangoon Red, a Mustang paint color. It did not have the rear deck cooling scoops, but did have a rear window blister and had what was known as the 'Gurney bubble' on the driver's door roof. This was put in place so that Dan Gurney, who was 6'3" tall, would fit into the car. Note that these cars had the fuel filler cap only on the left side of the car. Both cars also had gold wheels. This car was driven by Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt. While it won the pole position, it dropped out of the race later on and did not finish.

The other 'Mercury' was the #4 car, painted in Sauterne Gold and driven by Mark Donohue and Peter Revson. This car was up to full Mk.II standards with the aft brake scoops. Both cars has the left knock-offs painted red (day-glo) with the right ones blue  for the race as the threads were different.

Fujimi  kit #12139/47/48 is a good choice for the #3 car while any of the Fujimi 1966 LeMans boxings or the Revell reboxes are good for the #4.
