The third
new sheet is again for a pair of OD/Neutral Grey aircraft. This time they
are both combat veterans, one very much so. Again, we have but Revell and
Monogram to come to our rescue with kits for these aircraft. Both old and
both rather well done, though a bit of work is needed. The G also has a few
'new parts and some repainting done on it so this will make for an
interesting model when it is finished. Cutting Edge makes all sorts of
update bits for these planes so you may want to look around their website
for them when you visit.
First is
the B-17G 'Our Gal Sal'. This 351 BS/100 BG aircraft has replacement cowl
flaps and chin turret in bare metal. Much of the upper wing has been
repainted from the look of things. and it carries a bunch of mission
markings as well as new nose gun windows.
The B-17F is 'Double Trouble' from the 333 BS/94 BG in late 1943. It has 'greyed out' early national insignia and only a few mission markings from when the reference photos were taken.
Insignia for the B-17G can be found on sheet CED 48-262/263. For the B-17F, CED 48-261 would be the one to use. Or you can use the kit decals, but they won't be as nice! As usual, duplicate nose arts are provided in case you make a goof with these rather fragile but superbly done decals.
