The first jets of the Israeli Air Force were the British built Gloster Meteor. Initial deliveries in 1953 were the T.7 trainers, followed by F.8 fighters and FR.9 fighter/recce birds. These were followed in 1956 by NF.13 night fighters, this variant being specifically developed for operations in hot, dusty climes.

The fighters and trainers were operated by the First Jet Squadron and Knights of the North Squadron on active duty. When the First Jet Squadron went to newer planes, its aircraft were transferred to the Knights of the Orange Tail Squadron, which was primarily used for target towing. As the name implies, its aircraft were decorated with an orange tail as well as da-glo stripes on the wings and fuselage. The NF.13 was operated by the Bat Squadron.

Camouflage for the Meteor is limited to two basic schemes. First was the overall natural metal finish. This was then supplanted by the Blue/Brown over Grey finish. The NF.13 replaced the grey underside with a more appropriate Extra Dark Sea Grey finish.

Recommended kits for this sheet are the current Classic Airframes releases (which will eventually cover the T.7, FR.9 and NF. 13), as well as the Aeroclub kits.

As with all current Isradecal releases, this one includes a super instruction booklet with many photos and excellent diagrams of the aircraft. A chart also allows a match-up between aircraft numbers and the names that some of the earlier jets were given.

Overall, an outstanding sheet and one that you should seriously consider buying.
