Adding to their excellent titles on IAf aircraft, Isradecals Publications presents this new one on the AH-64 Peten and Saraf. The Peten is the standard AH-64A while the Saraf is the more potent AH-64D Longbow version with the mast mounted radar.
The book covers the complete history of the aircraft from the decision to buy the Apache over other similar helicopters to the first aircraft delivered in 1990, the upgrades made to the aircraft, additional purchases and upgrades and the aircraft as it is today. One thing about IAF aircraft is that they frequently are used in combat and that is no different when it comes to the AH-64. In fact, so useful an aircraft is the Apache that additional orders of aircraft were made so that it now equips two squadrons; one of which had previously operated Kfirs. To say that the AH-64 is well thought of in the IAF would be an understatement. I found it interesting that unlike the US, the gunner is often the aircraft commander.
In addition to a full history of the type, the book is chock full of photographs, most of them in full color, covering the deployment and use of the Peten and the Saraf. This includes the various weapons and camouflage schemes used. Though originally delivered in US olive drab, they are now in a two browns and grey scheme, though the nose sensors are still in OD.
A complete look at the weapons carried by the planes as well as a full color walk-around section are included in the book, making this a must have for those modeling the IAF. Also included are full camo scheme views and a nice selection of color profiles. In all, this is a real boon to both the casual reader, aviation history buff and modeler alike. Highly recommended.
