The latest sheet From Iliad Designs should please a number of modelers. This one is for various camouflaged T-33 Shooting Starts. There are five different options, each of them with a different scheme.
First up is a 57 FIS T-33 in a South East Asia scheme, probably the only T-33 ever painted in this scheme. It has some areas of International Orange in addition to the camo colors. This aircraft was based at Keflavik, Iceland in 1975.
Nest is a Pakistan AF plane in an overall greyish-green with red tail section and outer tip tanks. Nose areas and fin tip are white.
Third option is one of two Canadian subjects. This is a CT-133 assigned to #2 Fighter Wing based in France during 1961. In addition to the then standard scheme, it has a white tail band.
A German T-33 assigned to AG 51 in 1968 is next. This is in the splinter scheme with da-glo outer tip tanks and fuselage band.
Finally, another Canadian aircraft in a wraparound camo scheme with 1 CAG based in Germany in 1990.
The sheet instructions are absolutely first rate providing both left and right side images as well as an upper scheme. In addition, there are photos showing, among others, the positioning of small nose vents that were used on the CT-133s. Not shown is the left rear fuselage vent of these planes. However a web search will clearly show this feature and the modeler can simply drill the angled opening.
No kit is specified, but the modeler has several from which to choose. The old Hawk kit is probably the least desirable due to its somewhat flat canopy. This kit was reissued in a Testors box. Next would be the Hobbycraft kit, which you can also find in an Academy box. This one has good shape, but a rather Spartan cockpit and is somewhat of a simple kit. By far, the kit of choice is by GWH (Great Wall Hobbies). This is the most recent tooling and comes in both early and late boxings. The main difference is the placement of the pitot tube which on the early is under the nose. All of the drawings on the sheet show the early pitot option, but I'd check for photos to be sure that is correct.
Overall it is a great sheet and is most welcome.
