The Fieseler Fi-156 'Storch' Stork was developed from a 1935 requirement for an army co-operation, casualty evacuation and general liaison aircraft. The Fieseler entry was far and away the most useful of the entries. It even went farther than the others in its ability to operate from small areas. Thanks to Fieseler's high lift wing, it was able to take off in 210 feet, land in 60 feet and was able to hover in a 25 mph head wind! Powered by a 240 hp Argus AS 10C inverted-vee aircooled engine, it was able to reach a maximum speed of 109 mph, but frankly, high speed was never a requirement!

The prototype first flew in 1936 and over 2,500 were built by many companies. The French firm of Morane-Saulnier built a version with a small radial engine and the plane was also built in Czechoslovakia. Many still exist on the civil register in a number of countries.

Mike Grant's decals are one of the few sets that are dedicated to this often overlooked aircraft. It is surprising since the aircraft either is or has been available in all three major aircraft scales. This first sheet covers three aircraft.

The first is a Bulgarian AF Fi-156C-3 in RLM 71 uppers and RLM 65 undersides with yellow cowling and rudder.

Next is an ambulance version, the Fi-156D-0 in overall white with large red crosses and civil registration.

Finally a captured Storch in RLM 79 over RLM 76 with a lot of RLM 76 squiggles on the tan upper surface colors. Mike has done a great job of capturing the hurriedly brush painted British insignia on this scheme.

These decals are available in 1/48 and 1/32. Please check Mike's website via the link below for pricing information on the larger scale sheets. As with the other decals from Mike, these are printed on an ALPS printer so are all on a common carrier.
