Vinyl Mask

An accessory that has grown in popularity over the years has been vinyl masks. Designed for model clear bits, there are even masks for camouflage schemes and other areas where masking is important. This particular set is designed for the Academy 1/48 F-4 Phantom II series of kits.

The mask includes areas for the windscreen, main canopy sections and the smaller windows between them. There are also the long intake/fuselage walk areas as well as one for the wing, though I've never seen this particular one as far forward as shown on the instructions. In addition, you get masks for the wheel hubs.

Note that this appears to be more applicable to USN Phantoms and the early USAF versions. The camouflaged USAF Phantoms often had little more than an outline if that and they would have had an outline around the fin as well in later years.

I have not shown the actual mask as you'd see nothing but a black rectangle. The set cover does a fine job of showing what is included.  Overall it is a very handy item and if you have never used a mask set, I think you will be pleased.
