Vinyl Mask

An accessory that has grown in popularity over the years has been vinyl masks. Designed for model clear bits, there are even masks for camouflage schemes and other areas where masking is important. This particular set is designed for the Hasegawa 1/48 F-14 Tomcat series of kits. The mask includes areas for the windscreen, main canopy, intake walk areas as well as the taxi and ECS lights. To use the section for the intake walk, one removes the entire rectangular section for each side, places the mask atop the already painted section and then removes the outlines. Conversely, one could place the entire rectangular section and then remove the areas one wants to paint black or dark grey.

The main canopy mask sections cover the outline of the canopy and you can then use either liquid mask or tape to take care of the rest. I've used this type of mask and it works quite well. Apologies for not showing the mask itself, but all you would see is a black rectangle. The package cover shows what masks are there.

Overall it is a very handy item and if you have never used a mask set, I think you will be pleased.
