1981 sheet. Out of Production |

This is another in the series of Detail and Scale decal sheets. Sadly, they have not been with us for well over a decade, but they are not impossible to find at swap meets and where folks sell 'used' decal sheets. This particular sheet covers three F-106As, all in overall ADC Grey (FS 16473). The only known kit is the Monogram version and while it is also a bit on the old side, it does make into a super model. Though not currently (early 2003) in the catalogues, Monogram kits don't stay unissued for very long when there is a demand.
The most colorful of the three is from the 460 FIS, and these markings were worn just prior to deactivation in 1972. I've only shown the 460ths decal placement as the instruction sheet is quite large and gives not only placement, but also photos of the actual aircraft.
Next is the94th FIS. This one has a yellow tail band outlined in black for its dash of color.
The third aircraft is from the Air Defense Weapons Center and has the usual red, white and blue striped rudder marking. This aircraft also sports the commander's stripes on the fuselage. It is also unusual in that most of the ADWC 106s were two seaters.
All of the insignia and other common markings will have to come from the kit decals, which is a shame as most of Monogram's older decals are not good at all.
