NOTES:

Many of us who have purchased the Trumpeter/Hobbycraft P-40B/C want to do their aircraft in something other than AVG markings. Nothing wrong with the Flying Tigers, but many of us want something a bit different so turn to aftermarket decals to provide that for us. This one does just that and gives us markings for five early USAAC P-40B/C versions. All except one are in the usual Olive Drab over Neutral Grey scheme.

First up is Yellow 91. This aircraft is from the 31 FS/6 AF in the Carribean during 1942. It is different in that the underside has been painted white as is the norm for aircraft operating over water. The only other marking is a small white segment on the tip of the fin.

Next is a well-worn advanced trainer from Luke Field in 1943. This P-40B  is coded X-804 and has a yellow band on the nose of the aircraft.

White 300 is a P-40B from the 78 PS/18 PG based at Bellows Field on 7 December 1941 Its only additional color is the white spinner. The instructions state that the red dot on the fuselage insignia was overpainted (why, I don't know) but the rest of the insignia were normal for the period.

Black 127 is a P-40C from the 33 FS in Iceland during 1942. The plane is named 'Poison' and is typical of the photos I saw on the wall of Air Forces Iceland HQ during my tour there. These planes had very little to distinguish them other than a number and perhaps a small nose art or name.

Finally, White 160 from the 15 PG at Wheeler Field during 7 December 1941. Allegedly this aircraft was flown by George Welch during his kills on that day.

Unlike the MiG sheets, this one just offers a standard name and FS 595 equivalent for colors. Not a problem as most of us will have these common colors in one form or another in our paint racks.
