NOTES:

With the recent release of the Trumpeter F4U-1 and F4U-4 Corsairs, it was inevitable that there would be new sheets for this kit. Cutting Edge seems to be the first and has produced two sheets. This is the first. For those of you with the older Revell kit, I'm sure this will fit that kit just as well. There are enough insignia for one plane and enough prop markings for all four schemes. If you want to do the one with the blue surround insignia, then you'll have to use the kit decals, which I understand are not bad at all.

First up is one with some artwork on the fin. This F4U-1A was flown by 1st Lt. Stout of VMF-422 from Engibi Island during mid 1944.  I should mention that the number given on the cover is bogus and it should be just '8', not '827'. The sheet has it right.

The next three are all Boyington planes. The first up is white 86 which is probably the most famous. It also was probably not flown by Boyington, but just tricked out for a photo op.

Next up is white 883, which was also flown by 1st Lt. Bob McClurg. It carries the name 'Martha' and never flew with the kill markings, which were only applied for a publicity photo.

Finally, the plane that Boyington was shot down in. White 915 carries no mission marking or any other special identifiers other than the aircraft number.

Just to help out a bit. None of the serial numbers can be read on the instruction sheet, but the aircraft of VMF-214 carried the 'last two' or 'last three' of the serial as the aircraft number.
