Caracal Models CD 72057: P2V Neptune part 2

Units: See review

Scott Van Aken

For their second Neptune sheet, Caracal Models gets even more esoteric. For sure, it includes some standard patrol planes, but also some that were used for special ops during Vietnam. As with the previous sheet, the kit du jour is the Hasegawa version and for some of these options, a bit of modification will be needed. Not only does the addendum sheet in the instructions help, but Caracal directs you to their reference site for more information on upper and lower markings placement.

There are five options on this sheet. Note that white wing walk stripes are provided for the dark grey options. The others use solid grey areas and those will need to be painted in place. See the instructions for more info.

Here are your choices.

SP-2H Neptune BuNo. 145910, VP-4, US Navy

SP-2H Neptune BuNo. 148352, VP-56, US Navy

DP-2E Neptune BuNo. 128342, VC-5, US Navy

AP-2E Neptune BuNo. 131496, US Army

OP-2E Neptune BuNo. 131423, VO-67, US Navy

To do a proper early Neptune, you'll need either an Airmodel conversion set or the Falcon triple conversion for the P2V-5. These can require a bit of looking, but they are out there.

This set of markings is superbly printed by Microscale so you know you are getting the best.
