Caracal Models has come out with another excellent decal sheet, this time it is for the Roden 1/72 C-123 Provider. This is one of the few aircraft that was developed from a glider and incorporates a number of features that are now standard for military cargo planes, including the rear loading ramp and the high wing and tail section.
The sheet has six options, two of which are identical except for serial number. Most of these are overall unpainted metal, though there are differences. Note also that most of the engine nacelles are painted black to help cover up the engine exhaust staining. As is the norm for the time, most options are rather generic.
C-123B 57-6289, USAF MATS. This aircraft has a white upper fuselage and fin.
C-123B 54-0568, USAF and C-123B 54-0560 USAF differ mostly in serial number as the paint is nearly the same. These planes have da-glo paint on the top and bottom of the horizontal stabs as well. -560 also has this shade on the outer wing panels.
C-123B 54-0679, USAF Strategic Air Command, 1962. This aircraft has a blue SAC band and no da-glo on the wings or tailplanes.
C-123B 56-4375, "The White Whale" (Gen. Westmoreland's personal transport), USAF. Note that this and the other white top option has the black demarcation stripes included on the sheets.
C-123B 54-0593, USAF 310th SOS, Phan Rang AB, 1968 is the only camouflaged version. This is in the standard SEA scheme with the light grey underside.
The set includes full color painting and markings guide and there are enough common markings included to do two aircraft if one is the camouflaged version. In addition to the cheat lines, the upper wing walk areas are included on the sheets. two planes.
