Caracal Models CD 48191: A-10C USAF Warthogs

nits: Various

Scott Van Aken

This Caracal Models sheet covers four modern day A-10C Thunderbolts. These are all painted in the current two greys scheme of FS 36320/36375, shades that are so close to each other that the planes often look like they are painted in one color.

I'm not sure just which kit is the best for this sheet. There are several A-10s on the market in this scale, but I don't think any of them are totally up to specs for an A-10C. The biggest difference between the A-10A and A-10C is the latter has a 'glass' cockpit and improved avionics. I'm sure there are update sets out there for those who wish to put for the effort.

Here is what is on the sheet:

A-10C 80-0275, 355th Wing, Davis-Monthan AFB. This plane is in a WWII style scheme with the upper surface in FS 34102 Medium Green. It also wears old style insignia.

A-10C 78-0597, 23th Wing, Moody AFB. This option has old paint 'lizard' camouflage fin/rudders.

A-10C 80-0283, 51th Wing, Osan AB

A-10C 82-0661, 122th Wing, Indiana Air National Guard, Fort Wayne IAP

The decals are superbly printed by Cartograf and you have enough common markings to do two planes as long as one of them is the initial option. You are also provided with a variety of additional serial numbers for other projects. The four black stripes are for the D-day stripes on the engine cowling of the first option.
