This latest sheet from Caracal Models is a real boon for those who like C-130s and especially those who want a nice selection of Air National Guard planes. It is no surprise to those who follow these things that the ANG has become more and more of a support service with transport and air refueling assets being transferred to the Guard. It has meant that these units have lost their fast jets as the ANG drawdown has eliminated many units as actual flying squadrons and are now relegated to associate status, drone operators, intelligence squadrons, or units that were disbanded entirely.

This superb set offers 4 different markings options and it takes five sheets of different sizes to do it. The kit to use is the Italeri version, however, there are modifications that will be needed. The Italeri kit is based on a C-130A and at the very least, the engine nacelles will need to be replaced. As with the 1/72 set, references for where to get these and the missile warning antennas that most carry are included in the instructions. All of these are in overall AMC grey (36173), a shade carried by several paint lines. One is a special paint scheme for which the stripes will need to be painted.

So without further ado, here is what is included:

C-130H 90-1794, 179th Airlift Wing, Ohio ANG (2008 - 60th anniversary scheme)

C-130H 81-0626, 179th Airlift Wing, Ohio ANG

C-130H 91-1238, 123rd Airlift Wing, Kentucky ANG

C-130H 74-2063, 103rd Airlift Wing, Connecticut ANG

I would not be surprised to see other sheets released to cover other units.

The markings are printed by Cartograf with enough insignia and data markings to do one aircraft.
