Caracal Models is continuing their superb ANG offerings with this new sheet that covers the F-4C/D Phantom II. The sheet provides nine different options covering six different units. These options provide the two major camouflage markings options (well, actually three) worn by the majority of the early USAF F-4s during their guard service. Some units kept their Phantoms long enough to wear either a Hill Grey I or Hill Grey II scheme, but apparently that is for another sheet. SOme units also wore experimental schemes, but again, that is for another sheet.

First up in a SEA wraparound scheme is 63-7556 of the Louisiana ANG in 1983. Moving to Arkansas, we have two options. One is F-4C 64-0726 in standard SEA camo from 1982. The other is a Euro I camouflaged 63-7411, which at the time in 1988 was the oldest F-4 flying. I think this scheme was in one of Monogram's boxings.

Missouri's 64-0905 is an F-4C in SEA wraparound camo from 1984. This is from late in their use of the F-4C as earlier the planes were without the tail code and with white lettering. In Euro 1 is the 113 TFS, Indiana ANG's 64-0780 from 1986. This unit also flew a lot of ex EF-4C wild weasels. The first of two 196 TFS, California ANG planes is 63-7497 from 1982 in SEA wrap. From 1986 is 63-7644 in Euro I.

The last two options are from the 182 TFS, Texas ANG. First is 64-0918 from 1982 in standard SEA camouflage. The other is 64-0829 in Euro 1 from 1985. This aircraft was Robin Olds' "Scat XVII" and has two kill markings. This plane is currently in the USAF museum (or at least it was).

The set comes with a full color camo placement and markings booklet as well as other information pertaining to each of the markings options. There are data markings for one aircraft and the set includes a bunch of additional serial numbers so you can pretty well model any aircraft from these units for which you have a photograph. This is something I really like. For kits, you have the new Academy kit as well as the older Hasegawa and Monogram kits. The decals are superbly printed by Cartograf.

Below are some actual photos of the planes on the sheet.
