NOTES:

Updated instructions

Aviaeology has been going back through some of their early sheets that are now out of production and reprinting them with improved instructions. For this one, there is more information on their war loads with drawings showing the loads and placements.

The sheet itself is 1/48 and I can only think of the Signifer kit and one upcoming from FM that will be appropriate for this sheet. Neither are/will be inexpensive. I have also heard that Trumpeter was considering this as a subject, but have heard little else about it.

The sheet covers three aircraft in standard 1943/44 camouflage.

First is from 423 Squadron in August of 1943 when the aircraft was involved in the sinking of U-489. This resulted in the shooting down of the aircraft, but half of the crew survived. Note that this has the 'stickleback' ASV antenna.

Next is another 423 Squadron aircraft from September of 1944 when, in conjunction with HCMS Dunver and HMCS Hespeler, sank the U-484.

The last option is from 422 Squadron and in March of 1944, this aircraft found and sank U-625. It was the pilot's first operational mission as aircraft commander and I am sure the rest were not as exciting! This one also has the upper fuselage antenna.

The instruction booklet that includes a number of photos of all aircraft as well as a detailed markings placement guide. Information on the equipment of each aircraft is also provided. There is a small slip that allows the purchaser to access full color markings guides via the Aviaeology web site. The decals themselves are superbly printed; clear and crisply done with no registration problems. Insignia for one aircraft.

Overall, it is an excellent new sheet and provides one with some nice options over kit markings.
