This new AOA Decals sheet continues with their very nice Intruder sheets in 1/32 scale. This time it is the A-6As of VMA-533(AW) from the early 1970s. All of the planes are late A-6As without the fuselage mounted dive brakes. The are also in the light gull grey over white scheme typical of this era. What makes this set interesting is that in a fairly short period of time, the unit went through three distinctly different tail markings.

The first is from the Iwakuni deployment in 1970/71 and has the dark blue rudder with three white 'swooshes' .

Next is from 1971 and incorporates the white hawk motif, with a lighter blue stripe in the rudder.

Finally, the one that stuck with the squadron for quite a long time, that of the overall dark blue fin with the hawk and the rudder incorporating white checks.

Those with good eyes will note that these tail colors are replicated on the fins of the long range fuel tanks.

This set is superbly printed by Microscale and comes with AOA's insignia and stencil sheet, which can also be purchased separately if you want to model more than one of the three options. November 2018
