When the letter 'B' comes to the mind of men who build models, the two words that pop into their heads are 'B-29' and 'boobs'. This sheet from Aeromaster provides both of those!

The B-29 was greatly used in the first six months of the Korean War. Those in theater were reinforced by units from the States until there were six or seven bomb groups available to carry out the bombing campaign against North Korea. Though they were, on occasion, used as tactical bombers when the UN forces were almost squeezed off the peninsula, they were very effective in the strategic role.

So effective was the strategic bombing campaign, that by November of 1950, there were no real targets of strategic value left in North Korea. Most of the called up bomb groups went back home and only a few B-29s units stuck around.

One of the hardest working units was the 19th Bomb Group. In addition to many missions, their aircraft were often adorned with large and fetching nose art. Being based in Kadena, Okinawa, they weren't under the scrutiny of the units based elsewhere so were pretty free to paint what they wanted on their aircraft. However, it only took one inspection tour by a ranking general and his prissy wife to require toning down or removal of the art on the B-29s. Aeromaster provides alternate coverups for one of the schemes, though I would be very surprised if anyone actually uses them!

Aeromaster provides two very nice aircraft, both from the 28th Bomb Squadron. Both have areas of green and black that need painted on the aircraft, but there are enough aircraft specific decals to do two complete aircraft. It would have been nice to get the insignia and wing 'USAF' decals as well, but that would have required an additional sheet. These can be picked up from other sources. While both aircraft are overall natural metal, the researcher states that it is quite possible that these aircraft may have had black undersides sometime during their war career.

I look forward to getting the nerve to build a 1/48 B-29 to use these decals on!
