HISTORY

Ghostbusters is a 1984 American supernatural comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. It stars Bill Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis, as three  eccentric parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City. The vehicle they use is a 1959 Cadillac Ambulance with a bunch of additional 'stuff' added to the roof.

THE KIT

This kit was released in 2002 and has since been released two more times with the addition of the Slimer figure. It is basically a snap kit with 50 or so pieces. It is also a curbside. The two main parts are an interior and a one piece body. The interior has all the seats molded in place and the only other bits are a dash and two part steering gear. The kit has rubber/vinyl tires with plastic wheels. A metal axle is provided for both the fore and aft. There is a single piece front bumper/grille, while in the rear is a bumper with part of the rear chrome bits. The large fins so typical of this year's Cadillac are separate items that fit into the rear fenders.

All of the rest of the pieces are for the material on the roof. This includes spotlights, a light bar fore and aft along with various radar antennas and a set of cannon. While the kit can be built without painting, pretty much every modeler will want to paint many of the roof items otherwise it will look rather bland.

Instructions are sufficient and are basically exploded views. They are in English on one side and French on the other. A listing of what various parts are to be painted are provided. The kit does  not come with decals but, typical of many snap kits, comes with stickers. You could paint the red stripe areas if so desired.

CONCLUSIONS

Probably not for everyone, but it will make into a quite large car model. It also provides a nice stock ambulance with the removal of all the Ghostbuster equipment. This will require some filling and sanding, but should not be difficult for experienced modelers.
