HISTORY

Arnie "the Farmer" Beswick.  This is  the famous drag racer from a small farming town in Illinois, whose  extraordinary success in drag racing has made him a legend in his own time to  four generations of fans.  Not only is Arnie the most well known Pontiac drag  racer in the world, but his continuous series of Pontiac super stocks, funny  cars and nostalgia door slammers, has made him an undisputed fan favorite  from coast to coast for over forty years.

THE KIT

This is one of several car kits I bought where the previous owner had started the kit. In this case, the engine halves were glued together and some of the parts had an initial application of a rust brown filler. In line with other similar kits, there is a ladder type frame that must be built up before the engine and suspension can be attached. The engine sits fairly far back in the frame for weight distribution.

There is an interior that is fairly basic, consisting of a firewall, seat and steering along with some gauges. A roll bar fits in with it and there are wheelie bars for the back of the chassis. As befits a funny car, the front wheels are fairly thin and the rears quite thick.

The one piece body has an interior section that effectively isolates the driver from the engine compartment. You are provided with two clear sections. One is actually clear while the other is orange tinted. One is supposed to cut both sections and use the clear part for the windscreen and the tinted section for the rear window. Spoilers attach to the front and rear of the car with a large prop included so the body can be posed raised from the chassis.

Instructions are well done with generic color information. Photographs are included to help with construction. The large decal sheet looks to be still quite viable, which is a plus for a kit like this.

CONCLUSIONS

It has been decades since I went to a drag race, and I'm sure that funny cars are quite different from what they used to be. This looks to be a nice kit and one that shoujdn't be too difficult to build.
