HISTORY

The Chrysler 300 is a full-size car manufactured and marketed by Stellantis North America and its predecessor companies. It was available as a four-door sedan and station wagon in its first generation (model years 2005–2010), and solely as a four-door sedan in its second generation (model years 2011–2023). Much of the car's design was derived from Chrysler engineers studying the Mercedes E-class and incorporating some of what they saw into this car.

The second generation 300 was marketed as the Chrysler 300C in the United Kingdom and Ireland and as the Lancia Thema in the remainder of Europe.

THE KIT

This kit was produced back when AMT/ERTL was owned by Racing Champions. RC really only wanted ERTL's die cast line, but had to take the plastics along with it so kept them around until it sold that part of the company off to Round 2.

The kit is fairly standard fare for US car kits. It is in the US scale of 1/25, which is a tad smaller than the standard of 1/24 used by the rest of the world. It has a one-piece body with separate front and rear pieces, again, pretty much the norm. This is not a curb-side so you get a full hemi engine, though much of it is under a cover.

The interior is nicely done with a floor pan that has molded in rear seats. There is a separate firewall and door panels. Also separate are the front seats and it includes a center console. Wheels are vinyl. The underside has a full exhaust as well as front and rear suspension. A considerable number of the chrome parts are used to portray heat shields on the underside of the car and the complete, one-piece exhaust and muffler part is also chrome plated. There is side body trim that is also on the chrome sprue.

A full window piece fits into the body and once the engine and engine compartment pieces are in place, the interior, dash assembly and cooling poarts are installed, the body can be attached. It is only now that the wheels, front bumper and rear assembly are glued in place. I know that there are a lot of chrome bits, and frankly, most of us will strip the chrome from things like the exhaust and paint them aluminum and other metallic shades.

Instructions are well done and there are generic color references for most of the parts in the build. As for the color of the body and interior, this is left up to you, but there are tons of photos of this car on the net to give you inspiration.

CONCLUSIONS

An interesting addition to AMT's car line-up. Not sure how well this kit sold as I've not seen one built up other than the box top, but overall, it looks as if it would make into a nice model.
