As with the earlier volumes, UIF #3 is in the large A4 format which allows for some superb and large photographs, something that is important when dealing with ships of all types as they tend to be long and skinny! There are sections on boat types, conning towers, combat actions, personalities, the popular 'pictures with a story' section, camouflage and a lot more. This is additionally enhanced with color illustrations throughout the book.
Though all of the stories are good ones and the photos are simply superb, I found the one on the operation of 'Ali' Cremer's Type XXI 'electro boat' to be of particular interest. These boats came so close to causing real havoc for the Allies, and helped to form the basis for the new Bundesmarine in the mid 1950s.
Like the earlier LIF books, this one is dual English/German and contains not only some rare period color photos, but a lot of previously unpublished images from a number of sources. There is delight in every page, making this book one that you simply have to get.
