NOTES: |
I've been a member of IPMS Canada since volume 27. This is volume 46/3 so that means almost twenty years. I've seen R/T go from strength to strength and it has never failed to provide not only a great read, but also ideas that can be used in my own application of the hobby.
This edition contains a decal sheet along with a first for R/T, a mask sheet. Not surprising is that the majority of the articles in this edition are about the subjects on the decals. However, there are two build articles.
The first build article is the cover image. This is Wayne Beattie's Airfix 1/48 DHC-1 Chipmunk. While most RCAF Chipmunks had a larger, clear canopy, the first ones did not and Wayne has depicted the first one in service.
The other is another Airfix kit, this time the 1/48 Fairey Gannet AS.1. Maurizio Laudisa put a lot of work into this rather complex kit.
The rest of the articles all cover the decal sheet subjects. This includes an M4A2 Sherman of Fort Garry Horse, a Spitfire IX of 402 Squadron, FMC badges and Canadian flags, RCAF WWII identity badges, a 3 Training Command Harvard IIB, a 1 Squadron Hurricane I, and a Gannet at Namao for winterization tests in 1954.
It is a very nicely done sheet and in several cases offers multiple scales. The paint masks are nicely done and the reason you don't see an image is that all you'd perceive is a blank, greyish rectangle. The articles all provide insight into the subjects with lots of photos and information on appropriate kits.
Another fine edition and one I look forward to every quarter. So, you are wondering, just how do I get this great club magazine. Well, it is simple. Just trade boring money for full color magazines. IPMS Canada is a great group of people so you will be in very good company. Can't get much better than that.
But wait, there is more. If you join, you also get the electronic Beaver Tales delivered straight to your computer.
