NOTES: |
Despite issues caused by a clogged mail system and the pandemic, the latest issue of IPMS Canada's Random Thoughts arrived in the mails in perfect shape. I look forward to each volume as the builders are superb and I always pick up some hint or tip.
Then there are the surprise IPMS/C decal sheets, one which arrived with this edition. These are provided to every IPMS Canada member in good standing. To save on storage issues, only enough sheets are printed to cover the current membership, so to get this bonus you have to be a member.
As expected, the first pages are dedicated to the sheet subjects. This includes a lovely CT-133 from 408 Squadron, a Spitfire XIV from 411 Squadron and a Bedford QLD truck. Markings for the planes are in 1/72 and 1/48 with the truck being in 1/35. Two things to mention about this, both of which are realized by IPMS/C. First is that each of the Shooting Star options is shy four roundels. These can be obtained from outside sources. The other is that the serial for the Spitfire is incorrect and a correction is on the way.
Now for the articles. Headlining is Frank Cudden's superb civil Mustang. This plane had a considerably modified cockpit in red leather with a seat in the back for a passenger. Frank used the Tamiya 1/72 kit, Draw Decals for the markings and a lot of talent.
Next is a neat article by Benoit Bonnier on building a light arch using LEDs to help brighten your work space. This, of course, assumes your work bench is not a cluttered mess like mine!
Third article is an IBG 1/72 Diamond T Model 975 Truck. Martin Bendsoe had lengthen the chassis and scratchbuild a bed for this one and it turned out great.
Finally we have Wayne Beatty's 1/48 Thunderbolt II using, of course, the Tamiya kit, which seems to be the 'go to' kit for those building the P-47. The result is very nicely done.
Another fine edition and one I look forward to every quarter. So, you are wondering, just how do I get this great club magazine. Well, it is simple. Just trade uncolorful money for full color magazines. IPMS Canada is a great group of people so you will be in very good company. Can't get much better than that, eh?
But wait, there is more. If you join, you also get the electronic Beaver Tales delivered straight to your computer.
