NOTES: |
The latest edition of IPMS Canada's Random Thoughts arrived in the mails the other day. This edition is as good as the previous ones and concentrates on the IPMS/USA convention. Every year, IPMS Canada offers a 'best Canadian' award and this edition provides photos of all the entrants in this particular category as well as the winning entry. Not surprisingly, it is a large scale item. I've noticed that even in local events, the big scale stuff tends to garner awards. Assuredly, it is more than simply the size of the model that attracts, but also the level of detail that is included. There are modelers who build specifically for contests and you'll see them gravitate towards the best quality kits for their entries. Hence the prevalence of Tamiya and Wingnut Wings entries in their relevant categories.
The other articles cover a nicely done Takom 1/35 Leopard CII MEXAS built by Paul Colterman. Paul is intimately involved with these vehicles so in addition to the build article, he has a page of the 24 things that have to be tweaked on the kit in order to achieve the highest level of accuracy.
For a second build article, Frank Cudden does a very nice Hasegawa 1/48 Macchi C.205 adding a great deal of detail to the kit to make it even nicer.
Another fine edition and one I look forward to every quarter. So, you are wondering, just how do I get this great club magazine. Well, it is simple. Just trade uncolorful money for full color magazines. IPMS Canada is a great group of people so you will be in very good company. Can't get much better than that, eh?
