NOTES: |
Each quarter I look forward to the latest edition of R/T to arrive in the mails. This is one of the best club magazines produced and is always interesting.
This edition is no exception. This edition has four build articles and a nice reference article related to one of the builds. As in all the recent offerings, there are lots of photos and all of it is in full color (or is that colour?).
Lately, R/T has been producing fairly long articles. Sometimes folks may wonder if these sorts of things are what is wanted. From my standpoint, I like them. I may not duplicate the efforts of modelers who are obviously more talented than I, but I usually get ideas from each one.
The first article is Fran Cuden's Airfix 1/72 Spitfire PR.XIX. As seems to be the norm with articles, aftermarket is used in this build and results in a nice model. Interestingly, I have had a lot more PR.19s sent in for articles than any other of the new tool Spits.
Glenn Cauley has the next article and it is of the Italeri SLC.200 'Maile' manned torpedo. A well done article on this interesting subject.
An airliner is Massimo Santarossa's entry. He has chosen the Airfix 1/144 727-200 in Air Canada markings. A good article for those wanting to get into this aspect of modeling.
The last build is the Kinetic RG-31 mk.3 'Nyala', an MRAP used by several nations, including Canada. This nice article is preceded by a well written reference article on the subject by Ed Storey, making for a well rounded presentation.
How do you get these great editions? Simply join IPMS Canada and trade uncolorful money for full color magazines. It is well worth it. As a bonus, you also get their e-mail editions of Beaver Tails, which is separate from the magazine, and, when one is produced, you get their great decal sheets. You have to be a current member of IPMS Canada to get these decals as they do not print extras.
