The latest in RAF-in-Combat's series on Commonwealth squadrons concentrates on the Hurricane I/II with the Eagle Squadrons. These squadrons were started as there were so many American volunteers in the UK, that it seemed like a good idea. These units started flying with the Hurricane and eventually three squadrons were brought on line. These were 71, which flew the Hurricane the longest, along with 121 and 118 which flew them for a shorter time. All three squadrons moved on to the Spitfire before they were incorporated in to the USAAF's 4th Fighter Wing. Not surprising is that not many air to air victories were won during the Hurricane era, but all three squadrons did better when they started flying Spitfires.

This book follows the usual format  with a brief history of the type then the more extensive history of the units themselves. There's the usual information that includes tables of losses as well as some great period photos and the usual number of superb full color profiles of aircraft used by these units.

Thanks to all the well done research and choice of illustrations, it makes for a superb addition to the series and its reasonable price is one that should appeal to many. These do make for great references for the fans of the RAF.
