This is the first of SMH's themed figure books and is a compilation of previously published articles that fits into a specific theme. Not surprisingly, the initial book is on the German Army in WWII. This seems to be by far the most popular subject amongst military figure modelers.

As is the norm, there are a varitey of subjects and articles with some dealing with vignettes and others concentrating on modeling techniques as well as the usual how-to articles on painting.

It starts with a 1/20 set of an SS officer and his dog.

Next is a paratrooper figure in 1/35 scale with his arm in a sling.

An article on painting a camouflaged smock uses a 200mm figure of an SS soldier carrying an MG 42.

The fourth article concentrates on using acrylics and oils for skin and leather tones on a 90mm figure.

The first bust in the book is a Kriegsmarine crewman in 180mm.

A nice article on sculpting snow garb on 1/35 scale figres is next.

That is followed by a 200 mm SS officer bust.

Another 200mm subject is an MG 34 gunner in a winter scene.

The next bust is a 180mm bust with his rifle strapped to his chest.

This is followed by another 180mm bust, this time a paratrooper in 1944.

So there you have it. Ten very well done articles and the usual superlative photography that one has come to expect from Mr. Black. Well worth picking up.
