Scale Model Handbook #20 is a bit of a special with all the subjects being WWI or WWII. As usual, there is a nice mixture of projects and styles. This edition has 11 articles, which is more than usual. This is because many of the articles have a single page or two of description, usually covering the paints that were used in the figure.
First up is a 180mm WWI British soldier bust. This is quite a comprehensive article and provides a lot of information on painting this figure along with a lot of smaller progression images that are quite helpful.
Next is another long article, this one being in 54mm and covering ANZACs during the Gallipoli campaign. This one is particularly well done and has quite a few figures involved.
A 75mm German stormtrooper from WWI is next and one of the shorter articles.
The Black Knight of Germany is a WWI pilot is 75mm and a three pager with a page of photos of he completed model.
Two pages are provided on a 54mm Billy Bishop, another WWI pilot figure.
This is followed by a 180mm U-boat commander bust from WWII. This is one of the more in-depth articles and there are lots of good tips and techniques provided.
The rest are basically two or three page articles covering WWII subjects. It includes a pair of 50mm Germans during Barbarossa, a 50mm US Infantry Officer during the Ardennes in 1944, a pair of 50mm German soldiers talking in the snows of Kharkov, followed by another pair of German soldiers in 50mm, this time during the Stalingrad campaign. It all ends with a 120mm German Panzer officer bust.
It makes for a nice special edition in this well-received series and worth picking up.
