From the very beginning, the folks at Mr. Black Publications have stated that their purpose was to present a variety of quality modeling books. For the most part, this has concentrated on figure modeling and has proven to be very popular with readers. The combination of quality work and excellent photography make each edition a joy to read.
They have also done a few on dioramas, though they are fairly far between when it comes to publishing. In ten years, this is the third edition on this subject. This one concentrates on the works of one person, Vasilis Triantfyllou. His work is considered to be between history and myth where he combines the two into his dioramas.
The book contains five of his dioramas. The first one is the diorama shown in the upper right of the cover and takes up the lion's share of the page count. In this article he explains not only the reasoning for the work but also provides a fairly comprehensive 'how to' on putting it together that includes a lot of development and in work images. While few would actually be able to recreate this work, you are provided with a lot of ideas and techniques for one's own efforts.
The same applies to all of the other works that are fairly detail intensive. The author uses standard figures that you can find in most on-line shops and his figure painting ability is just as superlative as the rest of his work. This is a book where you can spend a fair amount of time just taking in all the detail he has put into these.
It is another superlative effort from Mr. Black and a book that any figure or diorama enthusiast will want to have.
