This next edition of MMP's Singles series is on the MiG-15bis. This aircraft was a major coup for the Soviets because, thanks in part to the British providing modern turbojet engines, a world class fighter was quickly operational. It proved to be a nearly equal opponent to the USAF's F-86 during the Korean War, giving as good as it got during air combat. While the Sabre was faster in a dive, the MiG had a higher maximum operating ceiling and heavier armament. This made for some pretty equal pairing that came down to pilot skill. It served into the 1960s even though it was replaced by the slightly improved MiG-17 in the early 50s.
In line with the other releases, this one is in the large A4 size with several distinct sections. There is no history of the type, but there are superbly done plans in 1/72 and 1/48 scale. The book includes a goodly number of illustrations of various parts of the plane from technical manuals and museum birds along with photos showing the entire aircraft and some details. The book finishes up with large, full page color views of a camouflaged North Korean MiG-15 flown by a Soviet ace in 1953.
It is another great addition to the MMP family of books that offers all that both the modeler and the enthusiast are seeking in a plans/detail book on a specific aircraft without going into a ton of detail. I found it be well done and one that I can highly recommend to you.
